LMKA Character Development Program

At LMKA, our goal is to develop the whole child. To do so, we have implemented a character development program. Youth Students will need to complete a series of character tasks besides their physical requirements for each belt test.

6 Precepts of Character Development

  1. Kindness and Altruistic Behavior
  2. Helpfulness towards Family and Loved ones
  3. Persistence and Repetition
  4. Focus and Attention to Academics
  5. Self Evaluation and Improvement
  6. Acceptance and Proper handling of Responsibility

The true essence of karate is to develop the body, the mind, and the character. We train our bodies to be the best they can be. We train to keep our bodies free of the poisons that are in our world. We train to be able to keep our bodies safe from attack, but we do not train to learn to kick and punch alone. We train to teach our minds discipline, tradition, and problem solving skills. We train to teach ourselves to be helpful, altruistic, kind, to better ourselves, to learn to focus on our most difficult tasks whatever they may be. We learn to do all of this while realizing that we are still a tiny piece of a very large world. We develop humility and foster a non ego-centric attitude.

That is what a black belt strives to become.

That is the true meaning of a black belt.
